Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 14, 2026

Bare Browser (“Bare”) is an open-source web browser built with privacy as a core principle. Bare is based on Chromium and removes or disables many Google services, telemetry systems, account integrations, and other features that are not necessary for normal web browsing.

About this policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Bare handles information when you use the browser.

Data Collection

Bare Browser does not operate an analytics, advertising, telemetry, or user-tracking service.

Bare does not require you to create a Bare account, and the Bare Browser project does not collect or maintain personal profiles about its users.

Bare does not sell personal information.

Browsing

When you visit a website, Bare connects to that website and other resources requested by the page, as any web browser must.

Websites you visit may receive information such as your IP address, browser information, cookies, and information you choose to provide to them. Websites may also use their own analytics, advertising, tracking, or other technologies.

These interactions are between you and the websites or services you choose to access. Their privacy practices are governed by their own privacy policies and are outside Bare’s control.

Browsing Data Stored on Your Device

Bare may store information locally on your device to provide browser functionality, including:

  • Browsing history
  • Bookmarks
  • Open tabs
  • Cookies and site data
  • Saved permissions and preferences
  • Autofill information
  • Saved passwords or credentials
  • Browser settings
  • Extension data

This information is stored locally as part of your browser profile unless you explicitly interact with a website or external service that requires transmitting information.

Bare does not operate a cloud synchronization service for this data.

You can remove browsing data using Bare’s built-in browsing-data controls.

Search

Searches entered through Bare’s address bar or search interface may be sent to the search provider you have selected.

If search suggestions are enabled, text you type may be sent to your selected search provider in order to provide suggestions.

The privacy practices of your selected search provider are governed by that provider’s privacy policy.

Website Permissions

Websites may request access to device capabilities such as your location, camera, microphone, or notifications.

Bare provides browser and Android permission controls for these features. Information provided to a website after you grant permission is handled by that website and is subject to its privacy practices.

Bare does not operate a service that collects this information for its own purposes.

Translation

Bare includes Chromium’s webpage translation functionality.

If you choose to translate a webpage, information necessary to perform the translation may be transmitted to Google’s translation infrastructure. This occurs to provide the translation functionality you requested.

Bare does not operate the translation service, receive a copy of the translated content, or use translated content for Bare analytics, advertising, or user profiling.

Google’s handling of information transmitted to its services is governed by Google’s applicable privacy policies.

Extensions

Bare supports browser extensions.

Extensions may access webpage content, browsing information, or other browser functionality depending on the permissions granted to them. Extensions may also communicate with external servers.

Bare includes uBlock Origin with the browser. Browser extensions may contact their respective update or resource servers to retrieve extension updates, filter lists, or other resources necessary for their functionality.

Third-party extensions are separate software components and may have their own privacy policies and data practices.

Users should review the permissions and privacy practices of extensions they choose to install.

Browser and Security Updates

Bare retains selected Chromium infrastructure necessary for browser functionality, compatibility, and security.

Chromium components may periodically contact update infrastructure to check for updated browser components, security information, extension updates, or related resources. These requests may contain technical information necessary to determine whether an update applies, such as component and browser versions, operating system or architecture information, locale, and update-related state.

Bare does not use these requests to maintain Bare user accounts, advertising profiles, or analytics profiles.

Security Features and DRM

Bare retains selected Chromium and Android security infrastructure necessary for safe and compatible web browsing. This can include certificate and TLS functionality, Certificate Transparency support, security-related component updates, download protection mechanisms, and platform media functionality such as Widevine DRM.

Some of these systems may communicate with external infrastructure when necessary to provide their functionality.

Crash Reports and Analytics

Bare does not operate its own crash-reporting or analytics service.

The Bare builds distributed by the Bare Browser project disable or remove Chromium/Google telemetry and reporting functionality that Bare does not require.

Your operating system, device manufacturer, app store, websites, extensions, or other software on your device may independently collect diagnostic information according to their own settings and privacy policies.

Google Play and GitHub

Bare may be distributed through Google Play and GitHub.

When you download or update Bare through one of these services, the platform provider may process information related to downloads, installations, updates, or your account according to its own privacy policy.

The Google Play build of Bare does not include Bare’s GitHub-based application update checker. Google Play handles application updates for that version.

GitHub-distributed versions may include Bare’s update checker, which contacts Bare’s public GitHub release feed to determine whether a newer Bare release is available.

External Download Managers and Applications

Bare can interact with external applications and download managers when you choose to use those features.

Information transferred to another application is governed by that application’s privacy practices.

Children

Bare is a general-purpose web browser and is not specifically designed for children.

Bare provides unrestricted access to the internet. Parents and guardians should consider whether unrestricted web access is appropriate for children under their supervision.

Open Source

Bare Browser is open source. Its source code is publicly available for inspection, allowing users and researchers to review how the browser works and how privacy-related functionality is implemented.

Changes to This Policy

Bare is actively developed, and its features may change over time. This Privacy Policy may be updated when Bare’s functionality or data practices change.

Material changes will be reflected in the updated policy and the “Last updated” date above.
